Thau Yong Amateur Musical Association
Established in 1931, Thau Yong Amateur Musical Association is one of the oldest organizations promoting Waijiang Music, Teochew music and opera in Singapore.
With the mission statement to “unite all music-lovers to study National Music (国乐), in order to share favorable entertainment, as a contribution to society so as to promote freedom and equality to all fellow citizens”, Thau Yong is currently Singapore's first amateur Teochew music orchestra and is active as well in the Teochew Opera scene.
In fact, Singapore’s first Chinese Orchestra was formed by Thau Yong in May 1959 complete with a conductor and 40-odd members & Thau Yong was also Singapore's last complete Waijiang music ensemble.
Built up by eighteen Teochew immigrants mad about music, they recognized the desire for artistic expression in the community, thus began her lifelong journey of promoting Waijiang and Teochew music and opera.
After diligently learning for three years, Thau Yong finally made her first Waijiang opera performance at Great World Amusement Park, carving her niche in the Teochew community. To this date, Thau Yong has presented 300+ opera performances in Singapore alone, not inclusive of concerts by the music section of the society.
Over the years, Thau Yong was invited to perform in the Bunte Bühne 1991: Internationale Jugendtheater Begegnung mit Fernöstlicher Kultur in Waiblingen, Germany, in various festivals in China; Shantou in 1993, 1999, 2010, 2015, 2019 and Quanzhou in 2016, in Bangkok, Thailand, the International Ramayana Festival and national celebration of the King of Thailand, King Phumiphon Adunyadet’s 60th birthday celebration in July 1995, in Masan, Korea, the Masan International Theatre Festival 2008,in Changwon Korea, the Changwon International Theatre Festival 2010 & in 2013, the International Ramayana Festival 2013 in Yogyakarta Indonesia, the Majapahit Festival in Surabaya Indonesia & Osaka University in Japan in 2019 to share about Teochew Opera.
陶融儒樂社
成立于1931年，陶融儒乐社是新加坡发扬外江乐，潮剧及潮乐最老的社团。以研究潮州人音乐及戏剧，提倡正当娱乐，联络感情，团结互助，进而为社会谋福利，为国家民族求自由平等为创社动机，陶融如今是新加坡第一个业余潮乐团，并且在潮剧界非常活跃。许多人有所不知，陶融其实也在1959年5月成立了新加坡第一个华乐团，并且也是新加坡最后一支外江乐队。
当年因18位爱好音乐戏剧的同道一起组织成立了陶融，为的是让大家可在工余之暇，藉丝竹以陶冶身心，积极发扬潮州人热衷的艺术。创社初期，因社友多数是成年人，确是适合学习汉剧，遂聘请汉剧名师教导演唱，於是在庆祝成立三周年纪念时，假大世界游艺场舞台，连演汉剧三晚以申庆祝，并在本地戏曲界设下第一个脚印。至今，陶融已在新加坡呈献了300余戏曲表演，这并没包括音乐演出。这些年来，陶融也曾多次受邀到中国、泰国、日本、柬埔寨、韩国、印尼及德国表演。
